LANGUAGE & SOCIAL COMMUNICATION GROUPS

Supporting young people to COMMUNICATE, COLLABORATE and CONNECT through team LEGO® building

Construction Club is more than building bricks—it's about learning communication skills, boosting confidence, and developing essential social skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Who is it for?

Young people aged 4-18 who may need support with:

  • social communication e.g. negotiation, perspective-taking, sharing

  • language e.g. following instructions, formulating sentences, increasing vocabulary

  • building friendships with like-minded peers

  • self-advocacy and confidence

Additional Benefits

  • building fine motor skills

  • embracing communication differences

  • sensory & visual supports

  • strategies to support your child at home

  • opportunities for parents/carers to connect through our community

Lego Based Therapy starts off with structured roles: the Engineer, the Supplier and the Builder

How Does It work?

After an individual assessment session , each child is carefully matched into a group of 2-4 young people, facilitated by a Speech Pathologist.

The program starts with structured role-based team building, and progresses into developing high level language and collaboration skills alongside exciting and more complex LEGO® creations.

What does the evidence say?

Transference to Other Settings: Some studies suggest that the social and communication skills learned during Lego-based therapy can generalise to other settings, such as the home or school, though this might depend on the frequency and consistency of the therapy.

  1. Research:

    • LeGoff et al. (2014) found that children who participated in Lego-based therapy were able to transfer the skills they learned to other environments, showing improvements in social interactions at school and at home.
